Portland-Area Contractor Free Training and Mentorship Opportunity
Energize the Land Trust is committed to fostering economic opportunity and building a robust local workforce. We are proud to create meaningful development opportunities for contractors and aspiring professionals from communities historically impacted by economic and social disparities, empowering them to keep their businesses competitive and establish strong career pathways.
These newly trained professionals will have the opportunity to work on Energize the Land Trust projects, performing the energy audits and carrying out the energy-efficiency retrofits on Proud Ground homes.
Through this collaboration with the Northwest Native Chamber, individuals and small businesses from our community will receive specialized training in building science fundamentals and acquire their Building Analyst Technician (BA-T) certification from the Building Performance Institute, allowing them to qualify to conduct paid energy audits for Portland Clean Energy Fund (PCEF) and Energy Trust of Oregon (ETO).
The training has multiple components which include the following time commitments:
- July 8th: 1 day in person training day introducing contractors to the training course and the Building Science Principles (BSP)
- July 9-August 8th: Contractors self study and take the BSP exam on their own time; tutoring and training support are offered throughout
- August 9-13th: 4 day in person training for the Building Analyst Technician (BA-T) certification
- August 24-27: A 4 hour block of time, in person, is scheduled for each contractor to take their BA-T exam
- Fall of 2027: Paid home energy assessment shadowing and mentoring opportunities and the option for paid retrofit work on houses in Portland
- Ongoing: Business support at no cost and increased opportunities for paid work through multiple Portland and/or Oregon programs
