Throughout its 63 years in operation, Mackenzie has adapted its services and now offers specialized expertise across various disciplines, including architecture, interior design, structural, civil, and traffic engineering, land use and transportation planning, and landscape architecture. The firm has established offices in Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver, Washington.
Principal Josh McDowell emphasized the significance of collaborative partnerships in Mackenzie’s success, particularly with contractors who share the firm’s commitment to creating an inclusive and just community. McDowell acknowledged the privileges Mackenzie holds and values individual strengths and identities.
Mackenzie places great value on its people, clients, and the communities it serves. The firm also recognizes the importance of collaborating with consulting and service firms that offer complementary services, establishing strong relationships based on shared goals.
Upon learning about NAMC-OR’s results-oriented approach to improving the construction and architecture/engineering/construction (AEC) industry in Oregon, McDowell and his team were impressed. They saw an opportunity to contribute to equity and inclusion in the AEC community and quickly decided to partner with NAMC-OR, recognizing the organization’s existing infrastructure and potential for community impact.
Mackenzie recently formalized its Premier Partnership with NAMC-OR, looking forward to a long-term collaboration. Some of the initiatives the firm discussed include participating in NAMC-OR’s education and training programs to provide design perspectives on the construction process, engaging with Oregon universities to increase diversity among AEC students and offering mentorship and support, reaching out to Oregon K-12 schools to generate interest in the AEC industry, and connecting with AEC programs at historically Black colleges and universities across the country to expand job opportunities.
McDowell highlighted the strong reputation and connections that both Mackenzie and NAMC-OR have within the local AEC community. By combining their resources, they believe they can further advance their diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Mackenzie gains new avenues to deepen their efforts in these areas, while NAMC-OR benefits from a design perspective and increased visibility for contractors seeking potential clients.
